Manifest episode 5 preview: What are Cal’s abilities?

Next week, Manifest episode 5 (entitled “Connecting Flights”) could put the focus on Cal a little more than it’s been as of late.

For the most part, the story of Ben’s son has been told within the context of his disease and seeing him battle to be better from that and find normalcy. His struggle is basically now twofold, given that he does have to move forward with his health in a different place and also with the timeline greatly changed. His sister is now so much older and that common bond that they had is gone. Beyond just that, there’s also him trying to connect with the rest of the word while he has his own abilities — ones that could be fleshed out so much more via what lies ahead:

10/22/2018 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Monday) : Stories unfold for those left behind in the aftermath of Flight 828’s disappearance. Meanwhile in the present, Cal (Jack Messina) takes Ben (Josh Dallas) on a mysterious adventure that awakens Ben to his son’s perplexing abilities. Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) tries to protect Jared (J.R. Ramirez) from consequences at work, while keeping her romantic feelings at bay. Also starring Athena Karkanis and Luna Blaise. TV-PG L, V

Michaela’s issue is fairly simple at the moment — her abilities could lead to Jared getting in trouble, but the main issue that comes along with this is that she cannot actually admit to having said abilities — at least if she wants to do what Ben has asked of her. She’s having to keep quiet about something that is very important to her that is having implications on the life of someone close to her. She doesn’t want to cause trouble for herself, but she also doesn’t want Jared to lose his job. This is a tough spot to be in.
