Cable Ratings: American Horror Story, Mayans MC, and The Purge

Sarah Paulson

For everyone out there who follows closely American Horror Story ratings, consider this some great news: The numbers are starting to level off.

Every year, we do wonder how this show is going to fare, given that horror is such a fickle genre and that this show has at times an anthology format that does not make viewership altogether necessary year after year. Nonetheless, this season is somewhat different because it does reference other editions of the series and has a consistent through-line. This does offer some ratings benefit, and it may be paying off for FX even in the somewhat-fickle live viewing figures. This past episode drew a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is about even with the week before. To date, Apocalypse is almost even with Cult last year in the demo, and if it can keep that up, we do think that it will be considered a success. The franchise has already been renewed for another season, so there is nothing to worry about there.

One other thing to get excited about at the moment is simply this: We’re getting to see Jessica Lange back next week. There’s a chance that this may be enough to increase the numbers.

As for some other numbers…

Mayans MC – This past episode did generate a season-low 0.5 rating, but we don’t put much stock in that here. For starters, there is already a season 2 renewal. Beyond that, this is likely a heavily time-shifted series given that it often runs long and airs late at night.

The Purge – It’s been a while since we wrote about the series, but its numbers are actually faring pretty decent all things considered. This past episode drew a 0.4 rating, which isn’t too far off from some other numbers that we’ve seen from it. This was always billed as a limited series, so it definitely remains to be seen if we are ever going to see it back again in any form.
