Saturday Night Live expectations: Will Seth Meyers, Paul Simon deliver?

Saturday Night Live review

This weekend’s new episode of Saturday Night Live is really for everyone out there craving a little bit of nostalgia. After all, this is a chance to see Seth Meyers back in the show!

It feels fair to say that expectations for Meyers are super-high given that this is a former cast member and head writer who was excellent on Weekend Update for many years. There are already many a viewer demanding Stefon and we feel like there’s a reasonably good chance that happens … provided that Bill Hader is available. (He’s a pretty busy guy these days.)

The great unknown for Seth is whether or not he will shine during some of the live sketches, given that these were never his forte on the show and he was in very few of them. There’s a chance to see something fun and surprising here from a returning cast member and that’s our main point of curiosity with this episode. Typically when you have an alumni host, that comes with a fairly-basic list of expectations. There really aren’t any of these for this particular show, as everything feels a little bit more up in the air.

As for musical guest Paul Simon, the dude’s a legend and has appeared countless times over the years. There’s no doubting his ability to come out and deliver a memorable performance, even after all these years. He won’t bring much in the way of flair on stage, but he doesn’t need that. This is a man who, after all, had a huge hit with “The Sound of Silence” as a part of Simon & Garfunkel. He’s almost all about the lyrics and some of the stories he tells.
