FBI receives full-season order over at CBS after showrunner swap

FBI

For everyone who loves FBIyou will find this news to be very much of the pleasant variety. Today, CBS confirmed that they are giving the Dick Wolf drama for a full season.

FBI is officially the second series of the 2018-19 fall season in order to get the full batch of 22 episodes, with the only other show at the moment being New Amsterdam. This order is a nice vote of confidence for what is still very much a new series, one that has posted consistent ratings … but not fantastic ones. It still felt like a sure thing that the show will get a full season, but we didn’t think that the announcement would be coming anywhere near this soon.

In some ways, we do think that this announcement is tied to the news that there is another showrunner change in the works here. Greg Plageman, who was previously running the show, was out. Meanwhile, Derek Haas and Rick Eid from the One Chicago franchise are coming on board in this role. We know that they are more than capable of pulling this show off and make it as successful as humanly possible. This is a tough gig with a lot of responsibility, but we’re excited still for what the future holds.

With FBI getting a full-season order, we think that the next big decision from CBS will be on Magnum PI. The series premiered a few weeks back now and it certainly seems like it will get more episodes to go along with this pickup.

As for what’s coming the rest of the season with FBI, we are anticipating some more significant tests for Maggie and OA as they navigate the tough waters of the New York Field office. This is a difficult world that they are a part of with many challenges, but we do think that they are more than capable of taking a wide array of these on.
