Criminal Minds season 14 ratings rise; Chicago Fire, Med, PD stay steady

Criminal Minds season 13

For everyone tracking the Criminal Minds season 14 ratings, we do come today bearing some good news! After a slow start last week with the premiere, the ratings have actually started to move in a positive direction.

Last night, the second episode of the series generated a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, up from a 0.7 rating for the premiere. While this may not be a guaranteed way to save the series, we do think that it helps to push the show even more in a positive direction. It also came close to matching the 0.9 lead-in via SEAL Team.

We probably will not know the full fate of Criminal Minds for a few weeks, but the biggest thing it needs is to at least be competitive with some of the other 10:00 p.m. shows that are airing over on CBS.

As for what else is worth noting from last night, Chicago Med, Fire, and PD all stayed even with their ratings from last week — basically, we’re getting more bona-fide evidence that this big three-hour lineup is actually working rather well for the network. These ratings could get all three shows back for another season; they may not be incredible, but they are stable, steady, and reliable. Given that NBC owns all three shows, that certainly helps.

Elsewhere, All American ended up debuting to a 0.2 rating — a weak start to a show that didn’t come from an established franchise. We hope that the positive reviews are enough to lift this show from the void since otherwise, it’s going to be heading to the TV graveyard sooner rather than later. We do want original TV properties to be given a chance, especially one with this sort of creative promise.
