Could Better Call Saul season 5 feature a little bit more Gene?

Is it possible that Better Call Saul season 5 could bring us a little bit more Gene in the future? If you’re a frequent CarterMatt reader, you know that this is on our wishlist — and it has been for a rather-long time. There’s just something about this character that brings a great deal of continuous intrigue, mostly due to the fact that he is the one person from this world we actually don’t know a whole lot about. There are still questions about where his story is going.

While there are no guarantees that Better Call Saul will give us precisely what we want here, including some element of redemption for this character, we do certainly realize that this is all in Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould’s hands. Yet, we do also know that series star Bob Odenkirk would love to see more in terms of Jimmy in this future timeline.

Speaking via Entertainment Weekly, the actor had the following to say about some of what he’d like to do still in however much time is left:

With what I know about the time that’s left in there for them to tell this story, in the sense that they’d like to end this piece with some acknowledgement of Gene and his world and what he can make of it; they can’t just leave him unconscious on the floor of a Cinnabon. [Laughs] They have to get him somewhere. They have a lot of work to do plot-wise.

As for whether or not season 5 will be the final one for the series, there is no guarantee of that — we’re mostly just curious to see how much Saul this show decides to give us given that we clearly know where his story is going with him eventually meeting Walter White.
