Chesapeake Shores season 4 renewal hopes: Will Hallmark Channel bring it back?
Let’s kick off this particular article, though, with this: At the moment, there is no precise word as to whether or not the network is going to bring the series back. The ratings have been reasonably steady for most of the third season, though they are also down slightly from where they were at this point in season 2. Think in terms of 11% in the 18-49 demographic and 12% in terms of total live viewers.
So is it okay for the show’s numbers to be down that much versus last year? On paper, sure. Having a small decline from one season to the next isn’t too big of a deal, especially in a climate where the vast majority of series out there tend to decline by more than 15% in key demos from one season to the next. From that vantage point alone, the Hallmark Channel has to feel really good about the show’s future. With the character-based nature of Chesapeake Shores as a whole, we do also think that there is always going to be a little bit more story to tell and room to explore with some of these people. It just all comes down to the ratings (DVR viewing is likely also considered here) and, to go along with that, whether or not the network believes in the story in the long-term.
For right now, we’re fairly optimistic; yet, at the same time we understand that there may be a little bit of a wait here. Typically with most networks these days, you’re faced to wait for at least a few weeks in order to learn for sure if a show is coming back or not after a finale — and it can even be longer than that if networks wanted to see a ton of extended viewing data.
For now, be optimistic; yet, at the same time, prepare to be patient. We’ll have more news on the subject the moment it comes in.
