‘Shiptober 2018: Supergirl (Kara & Lena) vs. Chicago PD (Upton & Halstead)
It’s a chance to celebrate some of the greatest ‘ships that the TV has to offer, and we’ve got a fun tournament this year to go along with it. Over the course of this month, we’ll be running some ‘Shiptober polls while also discussing what makes some of these couples so great and also sharing some teases / expectations for upcoming episodes! This is a chance to celebrate and discuss great ‘ships while gauging their popularity among readers at the same time. Only one ‘ship will be crowned the victor at the very end!
Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Only one ‘ship will move on to the next round, and we are keeping these polls open until Friday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The following day, the second round will officially begin. (All of the information needed can be found in the bracket image above.)
In this particular showdown, we’ve got a pair of very popular ‘ships from very different shows, though we suppose are about taking down bad guys in some shape or form. In one corner, you’ve got Kara & Lena from Supergirl; meanwhile, in the other you’ve got Upton & Halstead from Chicago PD.
Kara & Lena, Supergirl (#3 seed) – The ‘ship between these two characters, otherwise known as Supercorp, has one of the most passionate followings out there. So where does the interest come from? It really starts from the relationship that Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor have with each other. They have fun together, a beautiful connection and they truly care about each other. Even if the series itself never chooses to directly mention the ‘ship’s online fandom, it’s impossible to ignore Supercorp’s impact as well as the impact that their relationship has with viewers. When you think about all of the characters currently featured on the show, they may be the most-popular Supergirl ‘ship out there.
Upton & Halstead, Chicago PD (#6 seed) – One thing that Upstead and Supercorp have in common is that neither has been actually made to be romantic on the series itself — though in the case of Chicago PD, it does feel more like the series is starting to move in this particular direction with them. We’ve seen these characters develop a closer relationship over the past year or so, and it feels like much of their connectivity is based on some of the trauma that they’ve experienced. Both have went through some incredibly hard times both on the job and off, and they have an understanding of each other that very few others can. This helps to make us think that down the line, the writers may choose to bring Upstead to the next level.
Now, it’s your turn
