Poldark season 4 episode 2 sneak peek (PBS): Ross, Demelza, & an ailing Hugh
At the moment, it feels fair to say that the two are going to perceive his health struggles in very different ways. For Ross, he understands the political implications that come with losing someone like Hugh. He is coming off of a proud moment leading some of the people of Cornwall, and this is something that, in turn, he may be able to leverage into something greater and more significant for his career. He was undecided about his political fortunes for some time, but does seem now to be a little more keen to explore some possibilities here.

As for Demelza, her heart is in a slightly different place as she approaches Hugh in the sneak peek below. She does love Ross, but her heart has been split and torn over the devotion that he has had for her. With him potentially now on his deathbed, she does have the ability to put him more at ease; yet, simultaneously, she also does have to think about Ross and the relationship that they share. Hugh’s presence has complicated their marriage very much over time, but we also do contend that Ross has long been in control of whether or not these two characters end up staying together. His emotional distance is one of the reasons why events have transpired in the precise form in which they have.
