Saturday Night Live expectations: Will Awkwafina, Travis Scott show work?

Saturday Night Live

What lies ahead this weekend on Saturday Night Live? We’ve got a new episode featuring Awkwafina alongside Travis Scott!

On paper, this is going to be one of the more interesting episodes in quite some time. Awkwafina is a relatively new name to many thanks to her breakout role in Crazy Rich Asians, so her appearance this weekend will expose a number of new people out there to her comedic stylings. We do think that she is going to bring a lot of energy to the show and will likely be willing to spoof herself or her recent movie — yet, we also think that the show is likely going to mock their own lack of Asian diversity. They never have been altogether great with getting representation from the Asian community.

Our most-recent SNL video review – If you missed it, take a look below for some thoughts on this past episode! We had a great time making this one, and we suggest you subscribe to the YouTube channel so you don’t miss any others. We also have all past videos archived in an official SNL playlist for your viewing leisure.

As for possible political topics that they can spoof, save for bringing back Matt Damon one more time as Brett Kavanaugh, there may not be all that much else they can do. We expect a shorter cold open this year and a wider array of just comedic ideas in general. The premiere had some funny stuff, but was probably also focused a little too much on one or two topics.

When it comes to Scott as the musical guest, it’s really quite hard to know precisely what you can say to promote his appearance. He’ll probably be better than Kanye West, but we’re not sure all that many diehard SNL fans are familiar with him for something other than just the relationship that he has with Kylie Jenner.
