Vikings season 5: Katheryn Winnick posts new photo of older Lagertha
It is hard at this point to even write down the many different struggles that this character has endured over the first four seasons and the first half of this one. All of this ultimately culminated with this character facing her own morality, and effectively being ready to embrace death, at the end of the last run of episodes. Yet, she now moves on, and Winnick has a new glimpse of an older version of her character via Instagram.
As we move deeper into the narrative, Lagertha has lived a full, difficult life. Much of her legacy is now preserved and we wonder if she is now playing with the Viking equivalent of house money. She doesn’t have to be burdened by much of what she’s been through in the past and can live more in the moment. This makes her in some ways more dangerous, since she could presumably operate more out of what benefits the greater good more so than just her. That may not even factor into head anywhere near as much as it once did.
Could season 5 be the season where Lagertha dies? It’s possible, but if it does it remains clear that it will be a memorable end to what has been a memorable life. If she can make it through, History has already confirmed that a season 6 is coming in the future.
