‘Shiptober 2018: Riverdale (Betty & Jughead) vs. Grey’s Anatomy (Jo & Alex)
It’s a chance to celebrate some of the greatest ‘ships that the TV has to offer, and we’ve got a fun tournament this year to go along with it. Over the course of this month, we’ll be running some ‘Shiptober polls while also discussing what makes some of these couples so great and also sharing some teases / expectations for upcoming episodes! This is a chance to celebrate and discuss great ‘ships while gauging their popularity among readers at the same time. Only one ‘ship will be crowned the victor at the very end!
Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Only one ‘ship will move on to the next round, and we are keeping these polls open until Friday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The following day, the second round will officially begin. (All of the information needed can be found in the bracket image above.)
In this particular showdown, we are focusing on two different shows that have plenty of ‘ships for fans across the board — Betty & Jughead on Riverdale and then Jo & Alex over on Grey’s Anatomy.
Betty & Jughead, Riverdale (#3 seed) – One of the things that is so fun about the ‘shipping world is that you never know what couples are going to end up sticking. Going into Riverdale, who thought that Bughead would be one of the series’ more-memorable couples? The chemistry with Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse’s characters is just off the charts, and that really accelerated this relationship far beyond anyone’s initial expectations. They’ve had an up-and-down journey towards love through two seasons, and it’s fairly hard to imagine it will be any different in season 3, especially as the two do their best to deal with the fact that Archie will be spending some of his time at the start of the season behind bars. How they react to that could impact their relationship and they need to lean on each other in a way that they haven’t had to before.
Jo & Alex, Grey’s Anatomy (#6 seed) – There are plenty of relationships within the world of Grey’s Anatomy that simply don’t pan out; meanwhile, there are others you fall in love with just as much as the characters fall in love with each other. This is a great example of that. They’ve been through a lot together, but at the start of season 15 they are absolutely happy and enjoying their lives. They are fresh off the honeymoon and back at work at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Yet, it does also still feel clear that there are going to be some other problems that await them in due time. As for what those are, they could revolve around everything from their future to their past.
