‘Shiptober 2018: Outlander (Jamie & Claire) vs. Criminal Minds (Garcia & Alvez)
It’s a chance to celebrate some of the greatest ‘ships that the TV has to offer, and we’ve got a fun tournament this year to go along with it. Over the course of this month, we’ll be running some ‘Shiptober polls while also discussing what makes some of these couples so great and also sharing some teases / expectations for upcoming episodes! This is a chance to celebrate and discuss great ‘ships while gauging their popularity among readers at the same time. Only one ‘ship will be crowned the victor at the very end!
Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Only one ‘ship will move on to the next round, and we are keeping these polls open until Friday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. This article is the first showdown of the ‘Shiptober tournament, and here we have Jamie & Claire of Outlander squaring off against Garcia & Alvez of Criminal Minds.
Jamie & Claire, Outlander (#1 seed) – Following the strong success of the show in the TV Madness poll earlier in the year, it’s easy to anticipate that this couple, beloved by every fan out there of the series, will end up performing very well here. Jamie and Claire have suffered and struggled, but they also love in a deeper, more-powerful way than you see almost anywhere moving. Moving into season 4, the characters are finally at a place where they can get a fresh start together and build a home for themselves in the new world. That is the jumping-off point for the upcoming premiere, where the two await new victories … but also a number of new challenges.
Garcia & Alvez, Criminal Minds (#8 seed) – These two characters have a relationship that is certainly different — for much of Luke’s first season on Criminal Minds Garcia was very much hesitant to actually open herself up to a friendship with him, mostly because she did not want to acknowledge him following the exit of Derek. Over time, however, they have slowly forged a really nice bond. As a matter of fact, there are a contingent of fans out there who want to imagine them as more! While workplace romance within the Criminal Minds world are rare, there’s some chemistry here and it is a fun idea to think about. There is no word on a possible Garvez romance coming this season, but it is the most personal season to date for many characters.
