Outlander notes: New Sam Heughan – Caitriona Balfe cover; birthday news!
Today, Entertainment Weekly released a number of new covers for the upcoming season, with them featuring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe. Outlander covers have been a frequent tradition for the publication, which makes sense given that they must sell a good many copies. The timing of this is also perfect given that the season 4 campaign is starting to ramp up. The premiere episode is airing on Sunday, November 4, and from now until then we anticipate a fairly constant stream of updates regarding the story in North Carolina, some of the themes the new season will explore, and also some of the new faces we will meet along the way.

The publication also posted a new video, and here is one thing that Heughan had to say in particular about the new season and how settling down in North Carolina is in many ways a dream come true for Jamie Fraser — which makes sense, given the amount of time he’s spent either on the run or imprisoned in his life as a whole:
“Throughout the last three seasons, we’ve had them discover each other, go through this honeymoon period, and then try to establish themselves a home … This is an opportunity to really ground themselves and find a home together. Certainly, for Jamie, it’s been something that he’s desperately wanted for a long time. He’s always wanted to be the Laird, have his family and settle down. Claire has finally come back to him and now they get this opportunity. Of course, it is Outlander so things don’t run smoothly. But this season is really setting up the years to come. We’re really establishing Fraser’s Ridge and this new world.”
Other news worth celebrating
Today is Caitriona Balfe’s birthday! As another October baby we send our very best to her, and hope along the way that this is a great, prosperous day of fantastic celebration. Without Balfe’s extraordinary performance, it’s hard to imagine Outlander being as engrossing and entertaining as it is. We also have to recognize her World Child Cancer contributions and her doing her best to leverage social media to fight for kindness and generosity in the world.
