The Conners promo showcases life without Roseanne in the mix
Basically, this promo (which CarterMatt has for you to check out below) seems to put Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert at the center of it as the two women do what they can in order to figure out precisely what the future of the family is going to be — albeit not in a big, dramatic way. Instead, you have the two women discuss little things like kitchen appliances and whether or not they should blow all of the money at their disposal on Halloween. There is no explicit mention in here of Roseanne Conner’s death, or at least what we think will be her death. ABC has yet to really confirm anything when it comes to how this character will be written off, though the premiere synopsis does indicate that they are going to be saying goodbye to the character in some way:
A sudden turn of events forces the Conners to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before.
What we do wonder at the moment is simply this: Are the producers really even going to say Roseanne’s name? Losing this character in the way that it happened is so difficult, given that you have to find a way to separate the person and the character even though they have the same first name — also, Roseanne Barr was hugely involved here from the start. It’s an even more dramatic version of what happened on Two and a Half Men with Charlie Sheen.

We do continue to maintain that the ratings for the premiere of The Conners will probably be enormous, mostly because of the fact that there will be curiosity around what happens to Roseanne. After that, this is clearly one of the most-unpredictable series on the Fall schedule when it comes to how it will do.
