Bull season 3 episode 2 review: What happened with Cable’s mother?

Bull season 3

Tonight, Bull season 3 episode 2 proved to be one of the more complicated cases we’ve seen in a while. Why? Let’s just say that Dr. Jason Bull was distracted for most of the hour.

Let’s start here with the case of the week, as Bull took it upon himself in order to help a woman in Heather who ended up shooting a man on the street. The defense quickly became that she did so in order to protect her daughter, but this was not a particularly easy argument to make. They had to show that this said man, who was supposed to go away to prison, was actually a danger to the entire family.

While Bull did his part in order to make sure that his client could win this case, at the same time the next challenge came courtesy of him having to take on jury duty at the same time … which was mostly fun because we were talking about Bull at jury duty. What’s not to like here? This is a guy who likes to break the rules, so you really shouldn’t be surprised that he wanted to do everything that he could in order to ensure that this case would be wrapped up as soon as humanly possible.

Here’s the bad news: There was no real resolution for this case. It ended in a mistrial. Yet, on the other side of that there was a little bit of good news: The prosecution decided to drop the case. They feel like her time behind bars was ultimately punishment enough and everyone was going to have a chance to move forward.

The latest on Cable

It was pretty clear going into this episode that the character was gone; yet, there was still an emotional void that needed to be filled. Jill Hennessy arrived at the end of the episode tonight as the character’s mother, and that was something that Jason had to contend with. This was really the first time that we saw the character struggle to come to terms with her death. It was all so sudden in the premiere and now, he’s realizing that she is not coming back.

While Cable’s mother turned up at the end of the episode in order to pick up some of her things, we have a hard time imagining that this marks the end of her story.

CarterMatt Verdict

Overall, we would say that Bull season 3 episode delivered in just about every way that we could have wanted. There was a great case, but we do still think that Cable’s mother arriving at the end is the story of the greater importance moving forward.
