Blue Bloods season 9 premiere video: Jamie, Eddie talk family dinner
Does this make sense? Absolutely, given that the Jamko relationship is extremely popular among fans. Beyond just that, the finale last May ended up a way where there was plenty of story still to explore here with these characters. Jamie and Eddie were engaged, but questions remained when it comes to their future on the force. Frank was not altogether eager to have them continue to work together, and as we’ve seen in other sneak peeks for the premiere already, that sentiment hasn’t changed. We’ve gotten the sentiment that for Frank, his issue isn’t so much the idea of the two of them working together as it is the message that it sends — it’s not technically a rule, but it feels like an unwritten one. If he looks the other way on it, how are some of the other people in the department going to perceive him?
If there is one personal issue he has, it’s the fear that Jamie and Eddie could both die if they are out on the streets together, which could leave any future kids they have without either a mother or a father.
The new sneak peek shows that there is tension that carries into the latest family dinner for Jamie and Eddie, and it’s enough to make her reconsider whether or not she wants to continue to ride with Jamie if it makes everything so difficult with his family. This is a rough, emotional scene with a sweet ending, where Eddie says that in the end, the only thing she carries about is Jamie. Nothing else matters, including if she continues to ride with him. This does open the door for them to be separated, but if that happens it’s hard to imagine it being a permanent thing given that it would be hard to fit in separate stories every episode.
