The Last Ship actor LaMonica Garrett joining Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds

Elseworlds

The upcoming Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds has another notable addition today, and it’s someone who is likely familiar to fans of The Last Ship or Designated Survivor.

According to a report from Variety, LaMonica Garrett is going to be coming on board the three-part event as Mar Novu, otherwise known as The Monitor. This character is an “extraterrestrial being of infinite power” and has a name that really speaks for itself — he monitors in many ways the multiverse in the comics, and is responsible for eventually recruiting a number of heroes to fight an evil being known as the Anti-Monitor.

As for how this character works through the lens of the series, that remains to be seen but it definitely feels like his presence opens the door for a Crisis on Infinite Earths event in the future. If the Arrowverse wants to really get big, epic, and sprawling, it feels like that would be the culmination of almost everything that they’ve done so far — we do also think that on the other side of that, you would have a chance to reinvent. It feels like these shows are on the verge of doing some of that already with Batwoman just being conceived as a series. The future of Arrow being this upcoming season is unclear, but we do personally think that there is a little bit of life left in the Oliver Queen story.

The crossover event itself is going to be coming to the CW starting on December 9, and Garrett is joining a roster for this crossover that includes Ruby Rose as Batwoman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, and the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent / Superman. There’s a lot being crammed into these three episodes and it remains to be seen if there are some more names that are going to be announced in the future.
