Law & Order: SVU season 20: Ice-T wants to stay with show as long as possible
Yet, at the moment we do get the sense that people are not ready to say goodbye to the show just yet. For starters, if it gets to season 21 it beats the record tied by the original Law & Order and we think that the cast and crew want that. Beyond that, we can easily see the show making it to a season 25 if the ratings continue to be strong and the cast and crew still want to do it.
For now, it definitely does seem like some of the actors on the show are game to continue. Speaking in a new interview via HollywoodLife, star Ice-T (who plays Fin) made it clear that he wants to stick around for however long the producers want to have him:
“I don’t know if I’ll be on it forever because they must just go on forever, and Fin might need a walker or wheelchair. I mean, I’m on it for the ride. I’m on it until they tell me it’s over. I’m just lucky. People don’t know but they don’t keep shows on the air if fans don’t watch. Television is controlled by ratings, and ratings is the number of viewers, so when the viewers drop, the show will go away.”
One of the things that we do like about Fin is that he is one of those guys who probably is a lifer and even if he ever does retire, he’s probably one of those cops who won’t completely let go of the job. He is someone who we could always see being around the SVU since Benson and the rest of the team are his family. The friendship between Fin and Benson is one of the best things about the series — it’s understated at times, but they will likely continue to be there for each other for some time.
