Knightfall season 2 photo: First look at Mark Hamill
This photo, via Entertainment Weekly, shows the Star Wars / The Flash actor as you’ve never seen him before — looking more like he will shout “you shall not pass” than hold a lightsaber and take on the Dark Side. This character is named Talus, and he is a “battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades, who survived captivity for ten years in the Holy Land and is tasked with training the new initiates to the Order.” The fact that he looks like this is probably a symptom of the amount of time that he spent under captivity.
We do love the commitment that Hamill is going for here with this part, certainly because he’s not the sort of actor who had to go all the way out to Prague in order to film this role. He’s already had an incredible career, but there is clearly something about playing Talus and going through the required time in the makeup chair that was appealing to him. A part of that may be getting a chance to fully dive into a role and transform into someone who is totally different.
For Knightfall, it’s a great benefit having Hamill in the cast given that he will draw some more viewers to a show that didn’t have nearly as many of them in the past. He brings attention and this role is hopefully going to be meaty and compelling. (For those wondering, Hamill is pictured here with Tom Cullen’s character of Templar Knight Landry, who could be in for a rather dark journey of his own over the course of the new season.
