NCIS season 16 not planning to add new agent to the mix

NCIS

Over the summer, NCIS technically replaced Abby in the lab by promoting Diona Reasonover (Kasie Hines) to series regular. Yet, the series hasn’t made a move to replace Duane Henry, whose character of Clayton Reeves was killed off near the end of last season.

Are they going to do that? It makes sense for the writers to consider it, but that doesn’t seem to be all that much of a priority. Speaking in a new interview with Parade, executive producer Steven Binder had the following to say on sticking with the core group of agents in Gibbs, McGee, Bishop, and Torres:

We’re going back to that core group of four people. There are other characters. There’s Jimmy [Brian Dietzen] in autopsy, Diona Reasonover will be in the lab, Ducky [David McCallum] is around, Vance is upstairs, and so is Sloane, but we will rely more on that core group of people who live together in the squad room.

We do think that for now, this is probably the move just because there is only so much real estate that can be given to some of the different characters on the series. Even when Henry was a part of the series, for example, there was only so much that we got to see him. We’d prefer at this point giving more storylines towards people like Sloane, Vance, and Palmer than someone else who comes on board and has to compete … at least for now. Maybe on season 17 there is a chance to bring someone else in. It does make sense to feature some new characters here and there, mostly because they do help to mix the series up somewhat.
