Lethal Weapon season 3: Seann William Scott on Wesley Cole’s family life

When Lethal Weapon season 3 premieres on Fox come Tuesday night, you’re going to meet Murtaugh’s new partner in Wesley Cole. He’s a guy who comes onto the team with a great deal of training, and you’ll get a chance to see some of that in the premiere. Lethal Weapon is an action show, and we don’t think there’s going to be all that much that has changed from that vantage point this season.

However, there are going to be some changes pretty much everywhere else. Cole is not Riggs; he has a different background and a different skill set that he brings to the table. He’s coming to Los Angeles mostly to get a stable job and something that keeps him in one place. That’s not something that he really had for most of his life and with that, this will be a chance for him to do something different. His ex Natalie (Maggie Lawson) is in town, and so is his young daughter Maya.

So what will the relationship between Cole and Maya be like? That’s something that Seann William Scott discussed a little bit further in a new interview with TVLine:

They had a relationship where, under different circumstances, if he had a different kind of job… I think they would’ve been in love and stayed together. But because he was never home, he was just not the kind of guy you would settle down with, and so I think she’s really resistant and hurt because he was never around and never really there as a father. But as we’ve been shooting more episodes, I’ve really loved the chemistry that Maggie and I have, and I get the sense that they might fall in love or something.

Maybe the relationship here will be something worth rooting for; we certainly do know that there needs to be personal and professional motivation to watch Cole in order for Lethal Weapon to work in its new iteration. It has to get you invested on Cole early, especially since if it doesn’t, everyone will start turning their minds to Riggs.
