Shadowhunters gains ground at People’s Choice Awards; what it means
As of today, you can vote for Shadowhunters in the categories of The Show of 2018, Male TV Star of 2018 (Harry Shum Jr.), Female TV Star of 2018 (Katherine McNamara), Bingeworthy Show of 2018, and Sci-Fi / Fantasy Show of 2018. Given that the People’s Choice Awards is running out a fairly-limited list of TV categories this year, it’s pretty impressive that Shadowhunters has so much love across many of them. So what do these nominations mean? First and foremost, they symbolize the hard work and effort from some of the most passionate fans all over the world. These nominations mean a lot to the cast, the crew, and a fandom, and we know that this effort doesn’t go overlooked.
As for what they mean for the future of the show, it’s hard to really say anything for sure. We know that, at present, Shadowhunters is canceled at Freeform and that no other network / streaming service has picked up the show. Maybe this doesn’t do anything to change that. Yet, it certainly doesn’t hurt to get free publicity for this awards show over the next month and a half. If this brings more viewers to the show, this is almost certainly a good thing — and it also shows any potential network that if they pick up Shadowhunters, they could be the beneficiary of this sort of thing at future awards shows. The remaining season 3 episodes are not airing until 2019 — that’s a bummer, given that if it was sooner, it may be able to capitalize more directly on the publicity.
The People’s Choice Awards are set to air on E! this year on Sunday, November 11.
