America’s Got Talent finalist Michael Ketterer arrested for domestic violence
According to a report coming in now via TMZ, Michael Ketterer, who finished narrowly within the top five this season, was arrested this week on felony domestic violence after getting into a heated argument with his wife at a hotel. When police were called they noticed a red mark on his wife, and while she claimed she did not want to press charges, he was still taken in and booked, as is the law. Sources tell the website that it will likely be downgraded to a misdemeanor, but the result here and the punishment are the same and they go far beyond just what happens within a court of law.
Remember that America’s Got Talent, for most of the season, sold Michael as this perfect father of several children (included some he adopted) who was loved and adored by everyone. Basically, they put him on a pedestal as one of the nicest human beings on the planet. While this arrest would be just as horrific even if the edit was different, this just shows further the pitfalls of reality TV working overtime to paint a specific picture of a contestant. That just makes a potential downfall all the more severe, though to be fair nobody in production likely could have expected this.
Whatever hope Ketterer had at a successful singing career will likely be derailed almost entirely by this, and we’re not sure many will think of him in any other context. The series will of course move forward, but it will be very much difficult for him to. He told TMZ that the arrest was a “misunderstanding,” but that is the only comment we have as of this point.
