Bodyguard season 2 discussions are currently underway, but nothing official
Yet, clearly the network is taking their time in order to confirm anything. During an interview with This Morning, show creator Jed Mercurio made it clear that there are just now discussions underway about making another batch of episodes happen:
“We don’t know yet … We’re just beginning that conversation with the BBC. We know that people out there are loving series one and that there would be an appetite for series two, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Renewing British series isn’t exactly like renewing them in America. Actor contracts are often different and with many creators writing many episodes personally, you often have situations where the pre-production process is different. You often want to wait until the story is right and that you have the right parties involved. That’s not something that always happens right away. If we have to wait a little longer than a year, we’re okay with that if the story is there. We also have another excellent Mercurio series out there in Line of Duty, so at least we’ve got some great entertainment from him across the board.
The final episode of Bodyguard season 1 is airing on BBC this weekend, and after that, we’ll wait and see just what the future holds. The first season is going to debut on Netflix later this fall in America, so you’re not going to have to wait too long in order to check it out.
