Who is Peter ‘Pete’ Barbolak, Vicki Barbolak’s father on America’s Got Talent?
Of course, that does raise another question: Who exactly is Pete Barbolak? If you were wondering, the story is real and he was a former Pittsburgh Steelers football player. He sadly passed away back in 2006, but he played ten games with the team after attending Purdue beforehand. Back when he was in the NFL, it was absolutely a different era in that there were not actually any Super Bowls at the time. He was picked in the 19th round of the 1948 NFL Draft. It’s really pretty incredible just how much historical information is out there about an NFL player.

Much of Vicki’s act is geared around her “Trailer Nasty” performance and trailer-park life, and we do understand why there would be some questions about how that correlates to being related to an NFL player. Consider this yet another reminder that playing football in the late 1940’s is hardly the same as playing in it now. Football is a very different environment these days with glamour, monster TV ratings, and super-high salaries.
While Pete Barbolak is no longer with us, this was a pretty interesting fact that Vicki introduced into her act tonight. It certainly gave us more of a sense as to who she is. This is a part of what makes comedians exceptional on this show, since their routines are an opportunity to learn about them and also their point of view — even in a limited amount of time. They’re also able to tap into their performances in order to deliver some great humor.
