Salvation season 2 finale twist: Is the asteroid what it really seems?
After the Salvation season 2 finale on CBS Monday night, one thing is clear: The writers really wanted to end this with a twist.
For much of the past two years, we’ve taken a good bit of time buying into the idea that an asteroid was about to hit Earth. With that, we saw Darius and many other characters do everything that they could in order to prepare for what could be the end of the world.
Yet, is the end precisely what they imagined? As it turns out, not so much. Rather than giving us an apocalypse, we now have … an alien invasion? We saw the asteroid basically jump out of the way from its own potentially destruction, and in the closing minutes, it slowed down and hovered over Earth. Whatever the object is, clearly it was not meant to actually destroy the planet! There is a larger mission and a larger plan, whether this is something meant to just monitor the Earth or some sort of alien life-form ready to arrive and potentially invade.
What this twist ultimately means is that in the event CBS already renews the series for a third season, we’re going to be gearing up for a story that is largely about resolving the cliffhanger. This could make for an exciting, different sort of show provided that the writers get the chance to tell this story — we’re just not sure that they are going to at the moment. Salvation is the sort of show that loves to keep you on the edge of your seat, so no matter what happens, it’s going to be pursuing that end.
