Chicago Fire season 7 on set: Joe Minoso on Joe Cruz’s future, new love interest

Joe Cruz

We’ve said on at least a thousand or so occasions that Joe Cruz is one of our favorite Chicago Fire characters, and it’s easy to understand why. He is in many ways the heart and soul of Firehouse 51, a man who goes about his business, doesn’t ask for much, and has a great sense of humor in most of what he does. Yet, there are some darker layers there — he’s been through a lot with his brother and he’s certainly had his fair share of issues in his dating life. Just this past season, he had to wrestle with his feelings for Sylvie Brett, knowing that on some level she did not share some of them back for him. They have a history and you never know what could come in the future, but at that particular time, they were in different places going through different stuff.

Yet, it does seem as though Cruz could be getting some love in his life somewhere else! While at One Chicago Media Day this past week, Joe Minoso told CarterMatt the following when it comes to a possible love connection that stems from his work on the job.

“I am very excited to report that Cruz may finally be the subject of someone who really likes him, as opposed to it just being unrequited all the time. I save a girl from a fire and she seems to be kind of smitten — we’ll see where things go from there.”

Meanwhile, Minoso also teased that one of the funniest Firehouse 51 plots yet may be coming at some point fairly early on this season — if you love some of the antics that often tend to happen there, you’ll probably remember this one for quite some time.

“Cruz is fed up with the fact that he’s the only one in the house who can speak Spanish, so he’s insisting that everyone else in the house needs to learn. He just starts posting words and notes everywhere — the whole episode is just comedically one of the funniest things we’ve done. On the page, it made me laugh out loud. I hope we can do it justice.”
