American Horror Story: Apocalypse episode 2 video: Remaking the world

Sarah Paulson

Moving into American Horror Story: Apocalypse episode 2, we understanding you having this question: Where are the crossover characters?

It feels reasonably fair to call the first episode polarizing, mostly due to the fact that it spent most of its time dealing with new characters as opposed to really emphasizing anyone from either Murder House or Coven. A part of the problem here may have come via misconceptions that this season was going to be ONLY a crossover and really have nothing else in it. In reality, there is a little bit more that the show is looking to accomplish here. This is about remaking and rebuilding a world into darkness, and we imagine that many of the deceased characters — whether it be the Harmons, Madison, or some of the other familiar characters from these seasons — are going to be a part of it.

The big question and debate you should be having at the moment is simply this: Is all of this really going to be worth the wait, or are we being strung along instead simply for the point of getting American Horror Story cameos? The real danger that comes with this sort of storytelling is that if these sort of appearances feel tacked-on or unnecessary in any way, it’s going to be rather difficult to keep interest the rest of the season.

In general, keeping interest has long been one of the most difficult things with this franchise as a whole. They have a habit of getting off to tremendous starts in the ratings, only to then start to split and slide a little bit in the ratings after that. We’ve already got a feeling that something similar could happen here.
