The Conners casts a new Geena Conner actress in Maya Lynne Robinson
Remember Geena from the original series? She originally was the little girl DJ didn’t want to kiss in his school play because of her race; yet, as an adult the two are together and have a daughter. Clearly, somewhere along the way he had a change of thinking and realized that she is the perfect person for him. To go along with that, this new Geena is being played by Maya Lynne Robinson, who has some sitcom experience already through an episode of Mom. Robinson is replacing The Mindy Project alum Xosha Roquemore, who played the character briefly last season. Robinson will now be a series regular.
In a statement, the show’s executive producer (Bruce Helford) celebrated the new casting, while also explaining what Geena will bring to the table this year:
“We’re thrilled to welcome the incredibly talented Maya Lynne Robinson to the cast this season … Her character 2nd Lieutenant Geena Conner, whom a younger DJ was reluctant to kiss in his school play, comes full circle as his wife and Mary’s mother, bringing back a little piece of Conner history. Yet, while Geena is no stranger to the family, viewers old and new will enjoy seeing how her ‘military-style’ discipline meshes with the Conners’ more laid-back attitude.”
The Conners will be premiering on ABC come October 16, and almost right away we anticipate that the story is going to touch on whatever happened to Roseanne Conner herself. There are some photos that are out there that tease the start of the series, and we suggest checking those out right now if you want to conjure up some good theories all about what’s happening.
