The Conners premiere photo: Are Dan, Jackie mourning Roseanne?
The big question revolving around the upcoming October 16 premiere is how the producers are going to figure out a way in which to write out the main character and the face of the show. Killing her off is really the only choice that makes sense, unless you want to claim that Roseanne Conner suddenly decided to up and leave her entire family. It’s hard to do this in a way that makes sense, and the writers more than likely don’t want to punish this character because Roseanne Barr was fired. They don’t want to turn her into something that she is not just for the sake of making some sort of commentary. If she’s killed off, the producers are doing what Two and a Half Men really should have done with Charlie Harper. They did this at first, but they just couldn’t help themselves by milking Charlie Sheen’s story one last time for the series finale. (For the record, we still consider that series finale is going to be one of the worst ones we’ve ever seen.)
The Conners is probably going to start off with some big ratings out of curiosity surrounding this story, but the real test will be trying to figure out a way in which to keep people watching the fact. If the writers are creative enough and move the show on past just Roseanne, they may be able to have success down the road.
