The Good Doctor season 2 premiere forecast: Where we were + what’s next

What lies ahead on The Good Doctor season 2? In general, quite a bit! We’re gearing up for the show’s premiere on September 24, and all early indications suggest that much of what we saw in season 1 will remain: Strong, emotional storytelling that focuses on these characters. While there are medical cases, they never feel like generic case-of-the-week plots and we feel like the same thing can be said here.

Where we left off

At the St. Bonaventure Hospital, Shaun Murphy was recovering from a rare mistake, while at the same time Dr. Glassman was forced to put his life on the line for a risky procedure — one of the only ways he may be able to keep living after his cancer diagnosis. Shaun was forced to confront the reality of death when it comes to his friend and mentor, and he did not handle it all that well. Yet, he’s still there.

Elsewhere at the hospital, we started to get a more personal side of relative newcomer Morgan Reznick while Jared was contemplating a future away from St. Bonaventure after everything that he’s went through.

Away from the workplace, Shaun found his friendship with Kenny crumbling when he started to learn that it wasn’t really all that much of a friendship at all. He was exploited by him and was treated like dirt. It feels like it’s time for a change…

Where we are going

There’s a good chance Kenny will be gone, and in his place will be Shaun’s friend and potential love interest Lea. There’s no guarantee that the two will be together romantically, but she will have his back. It’s something that we’ve seen from her before and it’s the constant no matter what.

Meanwhile, we’re also going to have a chance to see Lisa Edelstein of House fame on the show as one of the few people who can manage Dr. Glassman’s long-term care. With him getting treatment, Andrews is taking a larger role than ever and with that, he’s not going to have much patience for Shaun. Morgan Reznick and Alex Park are now major characters moving forward, which means that we’re going to have a larger team working at the hospital. With that being said, Jared will be saying a fond farewell sooner rather than later — he’s there for the premiere, but maybe not too long after that.
