The Voice season 16 adds John Legend to coaching panel

Voice season 13 promo

Fresh off of him recently joining the rare group of performers with an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award), John Legend is now adding The Voice season 16 to his resume.

NBC announced today that the singer / musician will be appearing alongside Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Kelly Clarkson on the spring season of the talent show. Legend will have actually worked with Kelly Clarkson before on the short-lived reality series Duets, but this is a better showcase for him in terms of commercial success and his ability to mentor. He’s someone who has lifted up many artists throughout his career and we definitely imagine that this will be a great venue for him.

In a statement, NBC’s own reality head in Paul Telegdy had the following to say on the subject of getting Legend to come on board:

“John Legend is a one-of-a-kind musician and producer with remarkable skills that are beyond measure … His multi-dimensional career and incredible talents provide a repertoire that will excite and inspire our artists. This coaching panel is sure to ignite season 16.”

Are we super-psyched to see John Legend on The Voice? Absolutely, but it doesn’t really change the fact that this is a show in need of some other tweaks elsewhere. The Voice has long suffered from not having enough live shows, and having a boring middle round of the competition that saps the momentum away from the live auditions. We’d personally find a way to whittle the pack down further and get to the good stuff, given that the majority of the most-memorable performances on this series come either in the blind audition phase or during the live shows.

More than likely, The Voice season 16 is going to premiere in either late February or early March.
