Mayans MC episode 2 ratings keep the FX series on the right track

Mayans MC

Going into the Mayans MC episode 2 ratings (at least the live+same-day ones), we expected some sort of decline. That happens with almost every show, especially one that is following up a franchise like Sons of Anarchy that has such an enormous international following.

So where are the ratings at now? They’re still positive, but unfortunately our expectations turned out to be the reality here. This past episode ended up generating overall a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and, to go along with that, just over 2 million viewers. Both of these are drops of more than 20% from the premiere, but this episode just didn’t have the same hype and, beyond that, it’s going to drop more just because the premiere had the build-up that comes from a show like Sons of Anarchy being on the air before it. If Mayans MC continues to get above a 0.6 rating for the remainder of the season, it feels very much like it’s going to be getting a season 2.

Granted, the total audience for this show is so much larger than these preliminary ratings would even indicate. FX tends to look more at live+3 ratings for some of its shows when making its renewal determinations, and that is precisely what they are going to do here. We don’t really think that they will wait that long before issuing a renewal. Personally, we’d be shocked if, by this point in November, there was not a season 2 already ordered. The quicker that they can get this renewal out there, the earlier they can start working on what’s next for the series. That’s something that we definitely want to see happening and it’s something that we very much think will happen. This isn’t a bubble show; it’s one that could be a staple for the network for years to come.
