MasterChef season 9 finale preview: Will Gerron Hunt, Ashley Mincey, Cesar Cano win?
There are three contestants who are still very much in the running for the grand prize: Gerron Hunt, Ashley Mincey, and Cesar Cano. These three are contestants who have done a rather exceptional job both in showing off their cooking and their personalities over the course of this season. They’ve gone through a good bit, but at the end of the day only one of them is going to make it out of this season the champ. We like that this is a strong, diverse group of people who are from different walks of life and all have different jobs away from the culinary world. We also do like that two of them are teachers, given that it is such a humble and wonderful profession.
Of course, it is also keeping with the theme of this season that each judge have one contestant in the final round — though, for the record, we don’t really think that this theme matters all that much. We’d be fine if it goes away moving into the next season of the show and we shift back to it the judges just being in that role again. It felt like it was a little bit more important at the time of the premiere, but has faded a little bit more in the time since.
The format for most of the final showdowns on MasterChef is often the same, and we certainly anticipate that being the case here again — the final home cooks making a dinner that is personal to them and shows off their full range of skill. Why change that now?
