Gotham season 5 spoilers: Shane West to play Eduardo Dorrance

Gotham

Gotham season 5 has now officially brought on Shane West for an arc, and suffice it to say, he’s got a rather big role.

According to a new report coming in via Deadline, West will be playing Eduardo Dorrance, a character with significant comic-book ties. The casting notice describes this character as an “old army buddy of Jim Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie). Having lost touch with Jim after the war, Dorrance returns to Gotham years later, leading a team of elite soldiers with the goal of helping Gordon restore order to No Man’s Land. But as the scales fall from Gordon’s eyes, he realizes Dorrance’s true intentions in Gotham are much darker and more evil than he could have believed.”

In the comics, Sir Edmund Dorrance is a significant character and adversary known as King Snake. He also just so happens to be the father of Bane, one of the most-iconic Batman villains out there. There have been questions swirling around Bane moving into the final season for a while now, and it’s certainly possible that Dorrance could end up adopting more traits of Bane himself as time goes by.

There are a lot of different directions in which this story could go depending on what producers want to do with the part. It’s going to be tough, mostly just because of the fact that the team only has a small handful of episodes in order to incorporate both the many villains from the first four seasons and also potential new ones. We do understand the appeal of a Bane origin story of sorts, largely because he is one of the most-significant Batman characters who hasn’t been addressed on the series.

Also, we think that The Dark Knight Rises did a really good job of painting Bane in a different light other than the dolt he was presented to be during Batman Forever.

The final season of Gotham premieres on Fox in 2019; for more news related to Bruce and Catwoman, be sure to head over here.
