Lucifer season 4 debate: How should Netflix structure bonus season 3 episodes?

There are many interesting questions to ponder on Lucifer season 4, and the status of the bonus episodes is one of them.

As you may very well, the episodes “Boo Normal” and “Once Upon a Time,” which aired on Fox after the season 3 finale, originally were set to air during the show’s season 4 run. However, Fox canceled the show, and since there was no decision on the future at the end of May, the network went ahead and aired them.

By and large, this wasn’t a big issue given that these episodes were devised as standalone hours — mostly so that they could be plugged in with flexibility down the road. While there may have been an idea as to what season 4 could have been at the time they were written, there wasn’t anything firm.

Now, however, season 4 is coming to Netflix, and that bodes the question as to what you choose to do with these episodes now. The plan clearly is to move all of the show’s library to the streaming service worldwide, so we’re not altogether concerned as to whether or not Netflix will have the rights to some of thee episodes when they air. Instead, the question is more about whether they choose to place them in the collection of season 3 episodes.

While this is far from the most-important issue in the world, we do hope that Netflix finds a way to place them properly into the fourth season, as it was originally intended — while this may make things 1% more inconvenient for binge-watchers, we like the idea of the showrunners getting to see the show structured as they originally planned with these episodes placed within there. Think of them as opportunities to get a brief breather in the midst of the other action — the ten episodes that are being exclusively produced for Netflix are probably going to be streamlined and a little more fast-paced than we’ve seen in the past.

One way or another, we should get our answer to this issue when Lucifer season 4 premieres, presumably at some point in 2019.
