Bodyguard season 1 finale to run for extended run time

Bodyguard episode 4

We still have a couple of episodes to get through before the Bodyguard season 1 finale, but it never hurts to look ahead!

What we’ve learned about the finale this week that is especially important is that this episode is going to feel almost more like a movie than a standard episode of the show. It’s going to run, in full, for an impressive 75 minutes. The BBC doesn’t often give many of its shows that much time on the air (except for Christmas Specials), so it says a lot about their faith in this show — and so do the ratings. The Richard Madden series is one of the most-watched new series on the BBC in a good decade, and it feels almost like a given at this point that there’s going to be another season. (Of course, trying to speculate on it is hard since there isn’t that much information out there at the moment.

In speaking about the final run time of Bodyguard further via Digital Spy, the show’s creator in Jed Mercurio had the following to say:

“We’re grateful to the BBC for agreeing to an extended finale of Bodyguard … This way BBC viewers will experience the full measure of a nail-biting climax to the series.”

Ultimately, it feels necessary for the Bodyguard finale to run a little bit longer, especially when we still have no idea quite how this series is going to wrap up. There are a number of different questions that we’ve got about whether or not David Budd will be able to survive the bloodshed that is around him — and also if he is going to still have a job. We’ve already seen the ramifications of his post-traumatic stress on his job protecting Julia Montague.
