Lucifer gets complaints via the FCC, and nobody should be surprised

Lucifer

In what has to be some of the least-surprising news this week, apparently not everyone out there loved that Lucifer was on the broadcast TV.

In some ways, the complaints about the show being “demonic” are old news. We remember back when it first came out that there were some groups protesting it. The issue here mostly is just that once people see the name “Lucifer,” they immediately freak out and assume that the show is about a specific thing even if it is not. Yes, the show is about a character who, in Biblical terms, is the devil. Yet, at the same time we have seen so much more from him than that. While he can be a bit devilish, this is a version of Lucifer who is finding redemption and showing that he can love and try to make the world a little bit better by taking bad people off the street.

Sure, he does still cause trouble from time to time, but it’s probably a little bit unfair to assume that a devil can completely change his stripes.

As recently revealed via MuckRock, there were apparently multiple complaints filed to the FCC in the past about the show, including some suggesting that the series is bringing about the Apocalypse. We’re not sure if any of these people actually watched the show, because if they did they would find that Lucifer is a funny, often-lighthearted show that features a character who is so much more than any label that is attached to him. If anything, we think that Lucifer Morningstar is a fine example of redemption and not someone trying to convert someone to his evil ways — redemption and forgiveness, after all, are two of the most Christian positions out there.

We don’t assume that there is any way to change the minds of some of the people who have already complained about Lucifer. With that in mind, let us just say that with the show heading to Netflix, there will likely be fewer complaints in the future.
