Outlander season 4: More locations, expectations, and more

Outlander season 4

Just in case you’re wanting one of the best, and most descriptive, teases out there for Outlander season 4, we think you are in the right place.

Of course, by a “tease” we’re not talking about a comprehensive list of things that happen in the fourth book in the Diana Gabaldon series. While there are likely show-only viewers who know about some of the big events of the books, they may still have gaps of story they don’t know about. Our intention isn’t to fill those gaps, and that doesn’t seem to be the intention of the show’s producers, either. They want there to still be some element of surprise and sense of wonder from what lies ahead.

Yet, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts and Toni Graphia did recently hand down a rather-excellent description of what lies ahead to Variety, especially when it comes to laying out the North Carolina setting:

“One thing that is notably different — and immediately apparent — is the setting of season 4: America. A majority of the season will take place in colonial North Carolina: from the small town (at that time) of Wilmington to a large plantation on the Cape Fear River; from remote Cherokee and Mohawk villages to a hand-built log cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountain — all shot in Scotland! In other words, this season is about a 20th Century English doctor and an 18th Century Scottish Highlander making a new life for themselves in The New World. They will encounter pirates, frontier justice, American Indians, slavery, ghosts, skunks, and a nascent revolutionary agitation for freedom from tyranny.”

In terms of the season’s theme and culture, this is one of the best descriptions you’re going to get. This makes it clear that there are many different challenges coming four our characters this season, whether it be due to the landscape of the region or the culture of some of the people who live there. Given that Jamie and Claire come from such different walks of life and have such a wide array of experiences already, they’re probably more capable of handling these conditions than most. Of course, this environment would test absolutely anyone and we’ve got a pretty good feeling that it will do the same thing to them. They can conquer it, but sometimes roadblocks can creep up from unexpected places.
