NCIS: New Orleans season 5: How Pride cliffhanger carries over
Let’s start here by making this one thing clear: The writers aren’t killing off Scott Bakula’s character. He is still going to be around, and the larger question that you have to wonder here is simple: What are the ramifications of some of what happened to him going to be? At the time he was shot, any normal person probably would have died. He is extremely lucky to still be around, and that in itself is going to have him starting to raise questions about his future.
This very thing is something that executive producer Christopher Sibler describes to Variety, and he makes it clear in the process that there are going to be reverberations that last throughout the season:
“This season is a shift in perspective for our characters. While our team is still solving crime episode to episode, our hero Pride is dealing with the effects of near death experience. He literally cheats death in the first episode and the ramifications carry through into season 5. As he recovers from his wounds, he finds himself questioning why he was able to survive. Is there a higher purpose for him? He goes on a spiritual and even mystical journey to figure out the answers and discovers some hidden truth about his past. Pride’s close call with death also causes our other characters to question where they are in their lives and what they really want.”

Everyone about this sounds fantastic, given that the thing we do want above all else this season is a chance to dive into the personal lives of these people. We assume that there are going to be plenty of opportunities for great cases, so we want something personal mixed in there.
