Atypical season 3 renewal hopes: Will it happen at Netflix?

Atypical season 2

Following today’s premiere, what are the chances of an Atypical season 3 renewal over at Netflix? In this article, we want to take a larger look at that.

When it comes to the good news with this show, it’s pretty simple: We think that Atypical is a really good show. It’s real, it’s personal, and it does have a number of memorable, lighthearted moments. It’s a human comedy that gives you a different perspective than you get elsewhere. We like to think that Netflix is still a supporter of quirky programming; while they have way more programming than they did a few years ago, they still have a place for shows like this … or at least we like to think so.

If there is one thing that we’re explicitly concerned about when it comes to the future of Atypical, a lot of it just stems from the sheer amount of promotion that’s going to Iron Fist. That’s not exactly a surprise, given that we are talking about a series that is in the Netflix – Marvel pantheon of shows. We’re not blaming Netflix explicitly for it, since the media is going to focus on whatever they are going to focus on. We just hope that in the process, viewers don’t just completely forget about this show. It’s every bit as deserving of the attention and it’s certainly a breath of fresh air for the streaming platform.

As we explain in the video below (subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more), one of the things that matters most for streaming shows on Netflix is viewer retention and viewers also checking out the show within a reasonable window of time. It’s not so much about binge-watching a show like Atypical in a single weekend; instead, it’s more about viewers getting to it at some point in the next month or two. It’s about Netflix recognizing that there is a demand for the series and it’s worth bringing back.
