Outlander notes: Claire’s season 4 perspective, Sam Heughan support, More4 future

OutlanderWe’ve got a few different subjects that we want to get to in this particular edition of Outlander notes, but let’s kick things off with an interesting take on Claire’s season 4 narrative and the ties that it has with things going on in the present.

What’s fairly interesting is that by nature of it being an adaptation, Outlander is not setting out to specifically comment on anything from 2018. Yet, by virtue of the themes and the characters, there are still ways for the show to reflect modern times. Take, for example, through the progressive nature of one Claire Fraser, who is going to show in season 4 a fight and resolve for what is right — something that we see with many brave people today.

In speaking about the 18th-century era and Claire’s perspective towards it, here is what executive producers Matthew B. Roberts and Toni Graphia had to say via a report from Variety:

“We’re seeing it through her eyes — a modern woman seeing the horrors of slavery firsthand, knowing how long that curse will tear at the fabric of our nation … So she does something about it.”

We like to think that if any of us were to go back to the 18th century, we would try to fight for what was right for specific causes, knowing that this truly the way to make the world better.

As for some other odds and ends…

The end of season 2 on More4 – For those of you who are enjoying the series on British television, the bad news is that today marks the end of season 2 — though luckily, you had a chance to watch our favorite-ever episode in “Dragonfly in Amber.” The good news is that season 3 will air there, but the bad news (once more) is that it’s not coming until 2019.

Support Sam Hueghan – While it may be frustrating that Outlander is apparently not eligible for the People’s Choice Awards this year (it’s all a confusing mess, really), you can still support Sam and his recent film The Spy Who Dumped Me. To do this, head over to the link here — you can vote for the film under Comedy Movie of 2018 and then write in Sam as both a comedy movie star and a male movie star as a whole.
