Bodyguard episode 5 preview: Is the conspiracy real?

On Bodyguard episode 5 next week, David Budd is going to be forced to start asking himself some very tough questions. He’s been put into a really difficult position this season working with Julia, someone who he cares about on some level but also someone he has some serious trust issues with at the same time. Their relationship was almost fraught from the start, in part due to the romantic evolution of it and then also some of David’s PTSD that he still has not been properly treated for. This is something that can come roaring back at any question, and unfortunately, it does raise the question as to whether or not he can be treated at all within this role.

Below, the Bodyguard episode 5 synopsis offers up some more information as to what’s ahead:

As he delves into Julia’s (Keeley Hawes) political maneuvering, David’s (Richard Madden) theories about a conspiracy at the heart of government look increasingly plausible … But concerns about David’s psychological health are raised, and allegations about his and Julia’s professional conduct come to light.

As you would imagine, this is going to be a very trying episode for David as he could find himself both without a job and without Julia around at all at the end of it — and the latter is especially bad since it may render him unable to help others or pursue a larger cause. That’s one of the things that has to be on his mind at this point after seeing just how dangerous the threats swirling around him are … plus, we’re also nearing the end of the season. Following this particular installment, there are just two more left to try and tie together these loose ends.
