Designated Survivor season 3: Kal Penn, Italia Ricci returning; Maggie Q in talks

For now, Deadline reports that Kal Penn, Italia Ricci, and Adan Canto are all set to come back for more episodes, while Maggie Q is in talks. We’ve already reported that Neal Baer is going to be the showrunner, and the premise of season 3 seems to be the spread of fake news and what it can do in order to topple the government. It’s the sort of timely, meaty story that Designated Survivor can really dive into; one of the larger questions we wonder to go along with this is just how much the content of the series is going to differ now that it is at the streaming service.
For whose who are wondering specifically why Designated Survivor was revived, Netflix’s Bela Bajaria revealed in a statement today that, as previously referenced, the international success had a big role to play:
“Timely and gripping, Designated Survivor has quickened the pulses of our Netflix members outside the US and Canada in its first two seasons … The international audience for the show drove our interest to bring the show to the world as a Netflix original for its third season and we are excited to bring the first 2 seasons to our US and Canadian members as well.”
