Netflix’s The Witcher series finds a lead in Henry Cavill
It feels fair to say that expectations for this series are high. It is an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels, which have already been adapted into a series of super-popular video games. Those who are calling this a video-game adaptation are slightly mistaken, but we do recognize that this is where The Witcher got most of its popularity.
Cavill has been officially confirmed for the eight-episode series as Geralt of Rivia, a man who is trying to find a sort of peace in a chaotic world surrounded with monsters. We certainly know that he is capable of doing a lot of action sequences, and we do also think this is a chance for him to play a very different sort of character than before. He’s not necessarily the fan choice, as we know that many people were advocating instead for Mads Mikkelsen or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau to play the role.
Really, the truth with The Witcher, and a number of other shows and actors out there, is that it’s always hard to gauge what is right and wrong before we see the end product. Cavill’s Superman, for example, was the result of a collaboration in part with Zack Snyder. That’s not a full testament to his range, even if that is what the majority of people out there may recognize him for. If Netflix and the show’s producers think he is right for the part, we are inclined to give him a chance.
Yet, patience is going to be required here, given that all signs point towards The Witcher not coming on the air until late 2019 at the earliest.
