Elementary season 6 episode 19 review: Is Harlan Emple a kidnapper?
What happened? Basically, Lily turned up missing and because of the relationship that he had with her, there were questions almost instantly as to whether or not this played a role in what happened to her. He was potentially breaking the rules by having feelings for her; yet, he wasn’t sure if she felt the same. Over the course of the case, Watson and Holmes did their part in order to find her. They didn’t end up doing that, but she was able to escape her situation and turn up okay at the same time. The good news, at least for Harlan, is that he found himself in the clear before the end of the episode.
Yet, there were some other challenges ahead for Sherlock, as he still had to track down the person responsible for the crime. They were able to do that and, by the end of the episode, the responsible party was of course found.
What’s also fairly interesting is that this was the episode, of all the ones out there, that really touched on Sherlock and his romantic life. He recognized that every single partner that he had paled to Irene Adler / Moriarty. She was both his great love and his greatest enemy, and the weird situation that they got themselves into was causing him to feel as though the rest of his relationships would be tainted forever. It didn’t have to be that way, but he was certainly worried that it would be.
At the end of the episode, Sherlock went back to Athena and made a rare request: Going out to dinner with him. This was an attempt to get to know her better and have her become something more than a friend who he occasionally hooked up with. She was game, so Sherlock gets a chance with her. We’ll see precisely where this leads.
CarterMatt Verdict
Overall, Elementary season 6 episode 19 delivered on a good case with a familiar face and also some big questions when it comes to Sherlock’s future. Given that there’s no word as to when Elementary would be ending, it’s nice that the show is starting to think in terms of endgame possibilities.
