Bodyguard episode 3 shows even more ratings strength on BBC One

Bodyguard episode 4

Today’s Bodyguard episode 3 ratings piece could easily be just as much about how shocked we are that it doesn’t have a US home yet. This series has taken over social media in each of its first three episodes, and to go along with that is showing that it’s one of the biggest British dramas in quite some time. That’s not bad for a totally new concept.

Sunday night’s new episode generated a peak audience of 7.0 million viewers, with about 6.6 million overnight viewers on average. The average total was equal to the premiere more or less, while the peak was eve higher. Getting more viewers on board a show after it premieres is rare, and it’s a real testament to quality more than anything. It doesn’t matter how cool your premise is or how popular your cast are away from the show; people will not stick with you unless your series is decent.

We do think that some of the immediate appeal for Bodyguard comes via having Game of Thrones alum Richard Madden as a part of the cast. Yet, that’s not the only reason for its success, as it is not like this is Madden’s first TV gig since his time playing Robb Stark came to a close. (Most notably, he was a part of the series Klondike.) We think that the show’s success can be attributed to the right cast coupled with the right script and a twist and some timely subject matter. Everyone is aware of controversial politicians in 2018, and this series does an exceptional job showcasing some of the things that are done in order to keep them safe.

We do think that eventually, we’ll see a network or streaming provider pick up Bodyguard — beyond just that, we wouldn’t be shocked if eventually, someone adapts the show for American television so that U.S. politics can be thrust into the spotlight. Maybe it won’t be as good as the original, but we know that America loves remakes these days.
