Is Last Week Tonight with John Oliver new tonight? What we’ve missed
However, there is no good news to report this time around. The show is on hiatus for one more week, but it will come back for some more episodes when we get around to September 9. We know that there is often criticism about the show’s number of breaks — so much so that we’ve made a video about it (check it out below and subscribe for more updates) — but at the end of the day, it makes sense for it to be off today. It’s Labor Day Weekend! There are a lot of shows that are off the air this weekend, and the ones that are just so happened to be coming on are the ones that filmed previously.
As for what we would have seen on the show this weekend had it aired, we imagine that John McCain would have been a subject of conversation. Oliver more than likely would have commended for his service, and then also discussed his record and discussions when it comes to the White House’s reaction to his death. We do understand that it’s hard for Oliver to be super-current on much of this. After all, the challenge with his show being once a week is that he often gets the last word rather than the first word on various subjects. Yet, at the same time it is Oliver’s signature voice that remains appealing to many viewers. This is what they want to watch and see, given that there are so many other places to hear discussion on the news.
While we do value Oliver’s input on some of the biggest political news of the day, it’s the longer pieces on other subjects that are the most appealing to us. They are somewhat off the beaten path, but we like hearing about stories we don’t see or hear discussed anywhere else.
