Lucifer season 4 spotlight: What should lie ahead for Maze?

Lucifer season 3 episode 3

What could lie ahead for Maze on Lucifer season 4? We’re back with another edition of our spotlight series, and this one is all about one of our favorite demonic hunters.

Maze is a fun character mostly because there are so many extremes to who she is. On one level, she is this ridiculously-dangerous and ruthless fighter capable of taking on any task or conquering any mark. Yet, there is often a vulnerability there and a desire to feel like a part of a group. She’s softer than she would like to let on, and that’s a good thing since it shows that she can form a family with these ragtag characters.

So where do we want to see the story go for her in season 4? It really starts with finding more opportunities to push the character outside of her comfort zone. For example, we already know that Maze excels in dangerous situations; with that, we want to see her more in situations where she has to be a little more reserved and restrained. Seeing Maze not do what she does best is just as fun as her in her element, mostly because it creates some good comedic situations. With that in mind, we’re also all in for seeing her do missions with characters she’s not used to spending time with.

As for getting the character more in her actual element, why not give Maze some of her own adversaries or characters she is more intent on taking out? We know that Lucifer is going to be at the center of the show, but we do like shifting things around and playing with dynamics where he works to help her a little bit more. We’re especially for this if there are more opportunities to explore her past or what her life was like back in Hell. One of the joys of a show like Lucifer is that many of these demonic characters have such a rich and controversial history of chaos dating far back from when they arrived in California. That gives viewers a chance to really dive into some history a couple of times a season.

If there is one thing that we especially want to see the show avoid, it’s trying to just make Maze want to go back to Hell again. That feels like a story that’s been already played and we like to think that she realizes that she wants to be around these characters — even if she doesn’t always want to admit to that in the most explicit of terms.

Lucifer season 4 is, more than likely, going to premiere at some point in 2019.
